For the second time, the spread of the COVID-19 virus has forced an interview delay for a Columbus judge being considered for the Indiana Court of Appeals.
Originally, the first-round interview for Bartholomew Superior Court 1 Judge James D. Worton was scheduled to take place earlier this month. But in late March, the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission announced they were postponing their interviews of Worton and 12 other candidates until May 7.
While the Bartholomew County judge will be the second candidate to be interviewed, the commission announced this week that all initial interviews will be delayed another month.
Worton’s 20-minute interview is now scheduled for 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10 in the Indiana Statehouse. The vacancy is the result of the retirement of Judge John G. Baker.
After a second round of interviews are held July 1, the commission will submit the names of three finalists to Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, who will have 60 days to select Baker’s successor.
