The Columbus Korea Association and the Columbus Chinese Association have donated hundreds of masks and personal protective equipment to Columbus Regional Hospital and area first responders.
The Columbus Korea Association donated 800 masks to the hospital on April 24. The masks were shipped from South Korea with the support of Cummins Korea.
The Columbus Chinese Association began organizing personal protective equipment donations in March, raising $30,000 from the local Chinese community to purchase the equipment.
From March 7 to April 2, the Chinese Association has donated $50,000 worth of personal protective equipment to Columbus Regional Hospital, the City of Columbus, Columbus Fire Department (CFD), Columbus Police Department (CPD), extended care facilities, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp., local pharmacies and many others. The association has also freely shared supplier sources with state officials.
Members said Cummins donated 50,000 N95 masks to Columbus Regional Hospital.
Association members thanked all the first responders, Cummins, volunteers who organized the fund-raising drive, city officials who helped coordinate the donations and Columbus’ sister cities who donated to the mask effort.
The association thanked Columbus residents for staying home during the pandemic.
“We are all in this together. Hope we will get through this difficult time soon. Stay safe,” the association said in a message to The Republic.
