COLUMBUS
James “Jim” D. Dunn, 87, of Columbus, Jim departed this world to dwell with his Lord and Savior at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 2020.
James “Jim” D. Dunn was born April 17, 1933, in Saginaw Michigan, the son of James and Selma Dunn. He is survived by Florence, his wife of 62 years, and their children and spouses; Robert (Joni) Dunn, Janet (James) Horner, and Keith (Lynne) Dunn. Jim was blessed with twelve beautiful grandchildren; Carolyn, Mallory, Joseph, Michael, Natalie, Allison, Matthew, William, Jacob, Rebecca, Katherine and Grace. Jim is also survived by his sister Joanne Haiderer and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
After graduating from Michigan State University in 1958, Jim and Florence moved to Columbus where Jim accepted a position with Dunlap & Co. Later, he formed a partnership with Byron Carr to establish Carr & Dunn Construction. In 1974, Jim started his own construction company-J. D. Dunn, Inc. For 45 plus years, J.D. Dunn, Inc. offered home and business remodeling services for Columbus and the surrounding areas until his retirement in 2018.
As a child, Jim attended Peace Lutheran Parochial School and has been a member of the Lutheran faith throughout his life. He joined St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in 1972. He enjoyed serving his Lord where needed.
He enjoyed volunteering with area organizations, such as Mill Race River Rats, and Orphan Grain Train. Another one of Jim’s interests was maintaining and improving his country property.
In the summer, he loved sailing on Lake Michigan with his family. He also loved traveling. One of his favorite trips was a trip to Israel in 2018.
In keeping with Mr. Dunn’s wishes cremation is planned. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
