Rooks named IU’s Most Outstanding Wrestler

Graham Rooks, who qualified for the NCAA Tournament, only to see it canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, has been named Indiana University’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Rooks, a redshirt freshman from Columbus East, went 15-10 with two major decisions and finished 10th in the Big Ten Tournament at 149 pounds. He finished the season ranked No. 14 in the country and beat six other ranked wrestlers.

“Graham was one of the most exciting wrestlers on our team,” IU coach Angel Escobedo told iuhoosiers.com. “Graham put the nation on notice after knocking off ranked opponent after ranked opponent. Qualifying for the NCAA tournament as a freshman he went from being unranked to being as high as 13th in the country. His attitude and effort are what we preach as a staff.”

Rooks won the Hoosiers’ Freshman of the Year award last season.
