County reports 456 positive cases of COVID-19 with 33 deaths

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) today announced that 493 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 30,409 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

A total of 1,791 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 27 over the previous day. Another 150 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.   

Bartholomew County is reporting 456 positive cases with 33 deaths.

The Bartholomew County Health Department said there have been 4,467 tests performed for COVID-19 in the county with the 456 positive and 3,227 negative as of Friday.

The health department said there were 857 tests pending as of Friday.

The number of positives of Bartholomew County residents may include testing that was
conducted out of county. Conversely, the number of total tests may also include submissions for non-Bartholomew County residents. The counts listed for positives and deaths is only for Bartholomew County residents.

Other surrounding counties statistics include:

  • Jackson County: 351 positive cases, one death.
  • Brown County: 33 positive cases, one death.
  • Decatur County: 220 positive cases, 31 deaths.
  • Shelby County: 309 positive cases, 21 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 1,052 positive cases, 102 deaths.
  • Jennings County: 125 positive cases, four deaths.                                         

To date, 208,561 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 202,995 on Thursday.                       

Marion County had the most new cases, at 122. Other counties with more than 10 new cases were Allen (54), Delaware (10), Elkhart (61), Hamilton (12), Lake (42), Porter (33) and St. Joseph (16). Intensive care unit and ventilator capacity remain steady. As of today, nearly 38 percent of ICU beds and more than 81 percent of ventilators were available as of Friday.  

Hoosiers who have symptoms of COVID-19 and those who have been exposed and need a test to return to work are encouraged to visit a state-sponsored testing site for free testing. Individuals without symptoms who are at high risk because they are over age 65, have diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or another underlying condition, as well as those who are pregnant, live with a high-risk individual or are a member of a minority population that is at greater risk for severe illness, also are encouraged to get tested.
