Five arrested after drugs found in Edinburgh residence

EDINBURGH — A two-month narcotics investigation involving heroin and methamphetamine led to the arrest of five people in Edinburgh, police said.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers arrived early Wednesday morning at a residence off Duncan Street on Edinburgh’s south side, just north of the Bartholomew-Johnson county line, according to Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little.

During the 5 a.m. search, police discovered approximately 6.7 grams of methamphetamine, as well as an undisclosed amount of heroin, Little said. In addition, scales often used in drug dealing, syringes, paraphernalia and a large amount of cash were confiscated, he said.

But only one suspect is accused of dealing in drugs in connection with this particular investigation. Rocky Burton, 41, is facing preliminary charges of dealing in methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine, both Level 5 felonies, the police chief said.

Burton lived in a house north of County Line Road with two others accused of possessing narcotics, but not selling them. One is Donnie Goff, 40, charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a syringe, both Level 6 felonies, Little said. Goff is also charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of paraphernalia, according to an Edinburgh Police news release.

The third resident taken into custody was April Streeval, 60, who is facing a Level 6 felony charge of possession of methamphetamine. Streeval is also charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of synthetic marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia, Little said.

But when arrested, Streeval was already awaiting sentencing for two counts of dealing in methamphetamine. After being taken into custody during a large drug sweep in April, 2019, the Edinburgh woman plead guilty to the two drug dealing charges last March. Streeval is currently scheduled to be sentenced by Johnson Circuit Court Judge Andy Roesener at 1:30 p.m. on June 25, online court records state.

The fourth person taken into custody was Ashlee Weber, 19, who is facing preliminary charges of possession of heroin as a Level 6 felony, as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of paraphernalia. Little said he believes Weber had recently been in a drug treatment facility, and had not yet established a permanent residence.

Formal charges against those four suspects, if any, will be determined by the office of Johnson County Prosecutor Joseph M. Villanueva.

The fifth and final person arrested, identified as 38-year-old John Smith, is not facing charges in connection with Wednesday’s search.

Nevertheless, the Edinburgh man was taken into custody and turned over to authorities in Marion County, where he was wanted on an arrest warrant charging him with resisting law enforcement and driving while suspended, the police chief said.

All five suspects were taken into custody without incident, Little said. The police chief said he anticipates no further arrests from the two-month investigation.
