The Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s office has filed additional felony charges against a local man being held in the Bartholomew County Jail, accused of leaving the scene of an accident.
Additional charges of failure to register and sex offender residency offense, which are Level 6 felonies, have been filed against Michael O. Kent, 31, of 239 Lafayette Ave., according to the Columbus Police Department. Kent has been held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail since Monday after his arrest.
Shortly after midnight on Monday, Columbus police officers were sent to the 2400 block of West Jonathan Moore Pike about an accident, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
The officers located the vehicle involved in the crash at a nearby business and identified the driver as Kent, Harris said. After speaking with Kent and reviewing security camera footage, Kent was taken into custody, Harris said.
Kent was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and was later formally charged with leaving the scene of a property damage crash, a Class B misdemeanor. After the arrest, Kent’s bond was revoked by the courts in regards to an incident in May where he was arrested for trespassing at a downtown Columbus business, Harris said.
