A third Democrat is seeking a Bartholomew County Council at-large seat.

Tiffany Bosley, 34, Columbus, turned in her declaration of candidacy Monday at the Bartholomew County Courthouse, as well as a consent to fill a ballot vacancy.

Her paperwork was turned in after two other Democrats, Olisa Humes and Claudette Schroer, had their names placed on the fall ballot Thursday. All three names were submitted with the approval of Bartholomew County Democratic Central Committee chairman Steve Schoettmer, as well as a party caucus.

The three Democrats running for county council represent the type of diversity found throughout the entire community — “not just some segment of the population at the top of the scale,” Schoettmer said.

A 2004 graduate of Columbus North High School, Bosley works for the Bartholomew County Division of Family and Resources. Her earlier work experience also includes retail management. Bosley will soon be returning to Indiana Wesleyan University to complete her degree in human resources.

When asked what she hopes to achieve if elected, Bosley said she wants to start where her friend, Brittany King, left off. King led the Columbus Black Lives Matter chapter that formed in July 2016, but disbanded in December 2018 after she moved to New York.

“I want to make sure some of the issues she started are heard and addressed,” Bosley said. “I want to make sure policies are changed to better our community.”

Some issues advocated by Bosley include body cameras for all deputies in the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, as well as better planning for road maintenance to ensure a minimal amount of delays and inconveniences, she said.

Married to David Bosley, the couple has five children: Jakeel, 12; Tashawn, 11; Samuel, 9; Ben, 7 and David, 4.

Voters will have a choice of six candidates, three Republicans and three Democrats, to fill three county council at-large seats. The three GOP incumbents are Bill Lentz, Matt Miller and Evelyn Pence.
