Letter: It’s our responsibility to wear masks

It came first for people in nursing homes, and I did nothing because I did not live in a nursing home.

It came next for extremely old people, and I did nothing because I am not extremely old.

It came next for people with preexisting conditions, lung problems or weak immunity, and I did nothing, because I had no serious condition.

Instead, I rejected taking the precautions known to control the deadly spread of it to my family, my friends, my neighbors, my city.

Then it came for me and the folks I know and love.

Have humanity enough to take it on and resist it in the only ways we know how. Protect yourself and the people who may come near you.

Sure, it is inconvenient, but claiming you are just exercising a constitutional right by abstaining from responsible action during these desperate times is not bravery nor patriotism; it is rank and lethal selfishness.
