I am writing to share some information about our Columbus full-length golf courses and how closing one would affect Columbus golfers.
From the Otter Creek website, I find the following cost to play 18 holes with an electric cart for locals: $45 Monday through Friday before 2 p.m. and $37 after 2 p.m. Weekends those costs go up to $55 before 2 p.m. and $45 after 2 p.m. Costs for 18 holes at Greenbelt, all day, are $25.50 Monday through Friday with a cart and $28 on weekends. Greenbelt also has special $22 rates on Monday and Tuesday and Senior rates of $24 through the week.
It doesn’t take a genius to see that these Otter Creek costs are almost double Greenbelt’s costs.
Greenbelt offers a cheaper and less difficult way for the golfers without the cash to frequent Otter Creek. Since the purpose of the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department is to provide affordable recreation for Columbus residents, the costs to keep Greenbelt and Par 3 going should be considered part of the cost of one of many areas Columbus spends money.
