CPD arrests two after traffic stop

Two men were arrested on drug charges Thursday afternoon after a traffic stop near U.S. 31 and Lowell Road.

Officers from the Columbus Police Department’s Intelligence Led Policing Unit, which is comprised of CPD officers as well as a deputy from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, stopped a vehicle for a violation at approximately 5:30 p.m., said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

A short time later, a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office canine alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, Harris said. The driver of the vehicle, Trevin N. Scott, 31, of Indianapolis and a passenger Ricky D. Miller, 30, of Washington, Indiana were detained by officers.

Officers searched the vehicle and located drug paraphernalia as well as syringes and methamphetamine inside the vehicle, Harris said.

While searching Scott prior to transporting him to jail, officers located a small bag of heroin, Harris said. Officers also later located a bag containing over 18 grams of methamphetamine inside Miller’s clothing.

Both men were transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were remanded on the following preliminary charges:

Scott: Possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a legend drug injection device, he was being held in the jail in lieu of $117,500 bond.

Miller: Possession of methamphetamine (Level 3 Felony) and possession of a legend drug injection device, he was being held in the jail in lieu of $182,500 bond.
