COLUMBUS

Ruth Ann Goodman, 72, of Columbus, passed from this life at 1:14 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2020 with her wife and three daughters by her side. She was taken from her family suddenly and unexpectedly.

She was a wife, mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother. Ruth had an ability to make everyone she met feel like family. Those who knew her will miss her practical jokes they all once took for granted. She was always making jokes and playing pranks. Ruth could always make you smile, even when it seemed impossible. She started an April fools battle that lasted for several years. With those involved always trying to outdo each other.

Ruth made the best pizzas. She learned this from her mother. It was the kind of pizza you needed a fork to eat, everyone loved them. She enjoyed family gatherings, even though she pretended to be put out. Ruth enjoyed including family and friends. She always made sure to include others and made everyone feel welcome.

She loved her family, her wife, her 3 daughters, all 10 of her grandchildren and her five great-grandchildren. Ruth spent the first 25 years of her adult life as a stay at home mom and homemaker raising three daughters. She later met and married her wife Karen whom she spent nearly 28 years with. Ruth was a natural caregiver and nurturer.

Of her personal accomplishments, she was most proud of being a CNA. This experience gave her the skills she needed to care for both her mother and Karen’s mother until their passing. Most recently she cared for her youngest daughter’s husband who passed earlier this month. Through her caring nature, Ruth always put herself last making sure all those she loved wanted for nothing.

Ruth will be missed by all those she has left behind. Ruth was preceded in death by her mother, Willa Lee (Loos) Goodman; her Father Leo Goodman; her brother Roger Goodman and her son-in-law – Mark Kurtz.

She is survived by her wife, Karen Hendershot; her brother Michael S Goodman; her brother-in- law, Phil Hendershot; Ronnie Hendershot (Pat); her daughters, Tracey Cowan-Thompson (Randy), Marci Strong (Curtis) and Robin VanHorn (Kurtz); ten grandchildren, Tia Hall, Matthew Whittredge, Nicholas Hall, Sabrina Eldridge, Lexia Hall, Kaylee Gaviola (Nicole’), Elliott Thompson, Marissa Thompson, Courtney Meeker (Josh); five great-grandchildren, Emmylou Newton, Akashah Wineman, Abrien Wineman, Avalynne Meeker, Kingston Meeker; niece, Michele Goodman and a nephew Rob Fields (Trish).
