Driver arrested after CPD canine alerts to drugs in vehicle

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police arrested a local woman on drug charges after officers made a traffic stop at 11 p.m. Monday.

Officers pulled over a vehicle driven by Jamie R. Lane, 43, of Columbus after observing her commit a minor traffic violation near 11th and Chestnut streets, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

While speaking with Lane, the officers noted that she was visibly nervous.
A police canine was requested and CPD K-9 Argo alerted to the odor of narcotics in Lane’s vehicle, Harris said.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and the officers reportedly located methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia inside Lane’s purse. Lane was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of
drug paraphernalia, and driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
