COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a Louisville man on drug-related charges after a traffic stop on I-65 on Thursday.

At 6:48 p.m., Deputy Grant Carlson was traveling south on I-65 near the 77 mile marker when he observed a traffic violation, deputies said.

As the vehicle turned into the Circle K at the Edinburgh exit, Carlson initiated a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Joe J. Banks, Jr, 31, Louisville, Kentucky, deputies said.

Deputy Brandon Sellers arrived to assist when K9 Jari alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. Carlson located approximately 487 doses of Suboxone and a small amount of marijuana that Banks attempted to hide in the backseat, deputies said.

Banks was arrested and taken to the Bartholomew County jail on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

Banks has since been released from the jail.
