Bull Dogs blank Braves

TERRE HAUTE — Class 3A No. 15 Columbus North scored four goals in each half Saturday rolling to an 8-0 win at Terre Haute South in its Conference Indiana opener.

Jenna Lang scored three goals, and Lauryn Whitley had a goal and four assists for the Bull Dogs (6-1, 1-0). K.J. Ely added two goals and an assist.

Lauren Barker, who netted the games first goal 40 seconds in, and Alexa McKinley also scored for North. Rion Stevens and Sam Crossman each had an assist.

The Bull Dogs outshot the Braves 29-3. Ella Furber combined to record three saves in the shutout.

Twisters edge Panthers

OLDENBURG — Jennings County outshot Oldenburg Academy 12-10, but the Twisters came away with a 2-1 victory.

Morgan Lane scored the goal for the Panthers (3-5) on a free kick. Grace Ramey played the first half in goal and posted three saves, and Cheyeana Leslie played the second half and recorded six saves.

Knights top Eagles

BRAZIL — Northview held Brown County without a shot on goal in a 10-0 Western Indiana Conference decision.

Sarah Callahan posted 20 saves, and Isa Fogg added 10 saves for the Eagles (0-3, 0-2).

Bull Dogs nip Braves

TERRE HAUTE — Columbus North stayed unbeaten in Conference Indiana with a 2-1 win at Terre Haute South.

Mateo Mendez scored off an assist from Nathan White in the 21st minute, and Sam Larken netted an unassisted goal in the 56th minute for the Bull Dogs (3-1-3, 2-0-1). The Braves scored their goal in the 62nd minute.

North outshot Terre Haute South 14-12, putting six shots on goal to three for the Braves. Colvin Iorio recorded two saves,

Jets fall to Wolves

HOPE — Hauser came away with a 3-1 loss to Providence Cristo Rey.

Carlos Cuevas scored the goal for the Jets (1-4-2). Carter Scott posted eight saves.

Panthers tie Dragons

SELLERSBURG — Jennings County and Silver Creek couldn’t find the net in a 0-0 tie.

The Dragons outshot the Panthers (4-3-1) 20-17. Draegan Ison recorded 12 saves.

Columbus Christian wins

Columbus Christian improved to 5-0 with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 win at Evansville Christian.

Madison Henderson recorded 12 kills, 18 digs and one ace; Hannah Stair notched eight kills, six digs and four aces and Emily Stair had three kills, 20 assists, 21 digs and five aces to lead the Crusaders. Kayla Jones added one kill, 21 digs and five aces.

Also for Columbus Christian, Kinidy Morgan tallied two kills and 12 digs. Lila Hudson contributed three kills and one block, and Isabella VanCuren pounded two kills.

East takes seventh

CLARKSVILLE — Columbus East lost its three pool games before downing Franklin 25-20, 25-17 in the seventh-place match of the Providence Invitational.

The Olympians (4-3) fell to Fishers 26-24, 22-25, 16-14; Center Grove 23-25, 25-23, 15-12 and Class 3A No. 1 Brownstown Central 25-20, 18-25, 15-13.

Reece Whitehead led East with 41 kills, 44 digs and five aces. Katy Jordan recorded 137 assists, and Libby Dippold had seven blocks.

Also for the Olympians, Regann Jessee pounded 19 kills and six blocks, Dippold notched 14 kills and four aces and Saige Stahl added 12 kills and 17 digs. Cadence Gilley tallied 40 digs and three aces, Kenzie Foster contributed 17 digs and Gabby Dean had six blocks.

Bull Dogs go 1-2

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North bounced back from a pair of losses with a victory against North Central to finish 1-2 in the North Central Invitational.

The Bull Dogs (3-8) fell to Perry Meridian 25-12, 25-22 and Pendleton Heights 25-12, 25-17 before downing North Central 31-29, 25-23.

Reagan Kane led Columbus North with 48 assists and five aces. Madi Roop pounded 21 kills, Madison White had four blocks and Grace Chapman notched 34 digs. Sydney Cooper added 15 digs.

Pirates sweep Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County ran into an undefeated Greensburg team and fell 25-16, 25-15, 25-9.

Lauren Akles pounded six kills, Abigail Watson had two blocks and Londyn Koester notched seven digs to lead the Eagles (5-4). Watson, Abigail Angebrandt and Milly Patrick all added three kills.

Trinity takes second

MONTGOMERY — Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran won all three of its pool matches before falling to 2A No. 8 Barr-Reeve 21-25, 25-19, 15-9 in the championship of the Barr-Reeve Invitational.

The Cougars (10-3) beat Terre Haute South 26-24, 25-21; Heritage Hills 25-14, 25-20 and Indianapolis Lutheran 25-19, 25-15.

Sydney Jaynes led Trinity with 37 kills and 10 blocks. Bailey Reynolds recorded 92 assists, Kamzi Gross notched 43 digs and Stella Kleffman served five aces.

Also for the Cougars, Kennedy Hoffman pounded 32 kills, and Kleffman added 19 kills. Elly Carter had 24 digs.

BOYS TENNIS

North takes first loss

GREENWOOD — No. 5 Center Grove handed No. 13 Columbus North its first regular season loss in two years, a 4-1 decision.

Nathan Lin beat Dhrumil Patel 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to give the Bull Dogs (5-1) their lone point.

North’s Matthew Liu fell to Luke Embrey 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Joseph Kloepfer lost to Seth Jasek 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Amrit Kar and Anvay Atrim fell to Carson Contos and Landon Fincison 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Eric Stavnheim and Jacob Shinkle lost to Glen Swaney and Bennett Strain 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Jet finishes second

ST. LEON — Hauser’s Ryan Ault finished second in the Division II boys race in 18 minutes, 26.8 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) in the East Central Invitational.

The Jets had only four boys runners, one short of the number needed to score as a team. Alex Bower finished 10th in 19:55.1, while Colin Kistler took 12th in 20:05.7 and Cameron Toole was 35th in 22:46.3.

Hauser finished fifth in the Division II girls race with 125 points. South Ripley edged Jac-Cen-Del 43-48 for the title.

Amanda Steward led the Jets with a 24th-place finish in 26:35.8. Reiss Kistler took 17th in 27:28.9, while Tammy Essex was 32nd (28:39.7), Addison Jones 35th (29:51.6) and Kaitlynn Everroad 36th (31:34.7).

Eagles rout Clovers

CLOVERDALE — Brown County jumped out to a 42-6 halftime lead and went on to post a 48-12 WIC win at Cloverdale.

Kody Walsh carried 11 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns, and Waunblee Roux had three carries for 84 yards and two scores. Seth Oliphant completed 4 of 6 passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns and carried 11 times for 70 yards.

Travis Ely had a 34-yard touchdown reception, and Jordan Nash caught a 17-yard scoring pass. Ethan Spiece had two catches for 20 yards, and Chris Trotter ran 20 yards for a score in the third quarter.

The Eagles are off to their first 3-0 start since 1995.

"I was pleased," Brown County coach Randy Minniear said. "It’s always good to start the season 3-0 if you can do that."

Stars stop Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County was tied with Bedford North Lawrence 6-6 early in the second quarter Friday, but the Stars scored 29 unanswered points to post a 35-6 victory in the Hoosier Hills Conference opener.

After BNL scored first, the Panthers (0-3, 0-1) answered with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Michael Haines to Peyton Hayden on the first play of the second quarter. The Stars then took a 14-6 lead at the half and scored three more times in the second half.

Hayden carried 25 times for 111 yards and caught four passes for 20 yards. Haines completed 10 of 24 passes for 87 yards, and Colton Ross caught two passes for 29 yards.
