Flat Rock-Hawcreek reporting two more COVID-19 cases

HOPE — Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corp. is reporting two more in-person, confirmed, positive cases of COVID-19 from individuals at Hauser Jr./Sr. High School.

These cases were identified last week, and the number was posted on the school corporation’s website, which provides weekly updates on the number of COVID-19 cases and student referrals related to masks and social distancing. No such referrals were reported last week for either school.

Each weekly report contains only the numbers for the past week. Therefore, the two cases reported are in addition to the single case reported at Hauser the week before, meaning that there are a total of three cases reported from the school corporation, all from Hauser.

Superintendent Shawn Price has said that the school corporation is not including remote learning students in its weekly posts regarding case counts.

“The issue with the virtuals (eLearning cases), is they may or may not be reported to us directly … if they’re not deemed as close contacts of anybody here at school,” Price said. “So that’s why we’ve chosen not to include those on our website.”
