We are very supportive of ASAP’s efforts to help those trying to recover from substance abuse disorder and recognize the necessity of recovery houses.

Our concern is that the majority of these recovery houses are being established in the relatively small downtown residential area, with the possibility of more to come.

Like it or not, the presence of a recovery house in your neighborhood has negative consequences including a reduction in the value of nearby properties.

We do not mind doing our part in the battle against addiction, but it is time for other areas of our community to share this responsibility.

ASAP needs to spread things out and find locations for future recovery houses in other parts of our city. We do not want the much-needed ASAP program to become a cottage industry of the downtown residential neighborhood.

Our beautiful, historic downtown residential area had been experiencing a much welcomed renaissance in recent years to the benefit of our entire community. We do not want to see that trend reversed.

We made the decision many years ago to invest and live in an older home in the downtown area and do not want to see a saturation of recovery houses in our area only two to three blocks apart.

Again, it is time for other parts of our community to step up to the plate and invite these much-needed recovery houses in their neighborhoods.
