
COLUMBUS
John H. Johnson, 80, passed from this life at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Johnson was born January 25, 1940, in Owensboro, Kentucky, the son of Herbert and Dorothy Head Johnson.
He married Sharon Schnier Johnson, November 27, 1989 in Robertson County, Tennessee.
John graduated in 1963 from Brescia College. He was in the service station business for the majority of his life. He owned and operated Johnson Interstate Shell on Jonathan Moore Pike for many years, retiring in 1999. He made many friends during his time at the station. He was a loving, giving and charitable person who went out of his way to help people in need. He had a big personality and never met a stranger.
He enjoyed tennis and golf, as well as, watching all sports with his family. He spent many hours watching and celebrating with his grandchildren at their sporting events and competitions. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. While living in Destin, Fl he belonged to Indian Bayou Golf Club and played in the men’s league with his Florida and Canadian friends. He also loved participating in the Stone Mountain golf trip with the “Friends of Bill”. He was a member of the Columbus Fellowship Club for many years.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Diana Pierson, Mark (Patty) Johnson, Shawn Johnson and Kevin Johnson; stepsons, David Manley and Steven Manley; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; brothers, Glen (Pat) Johnson and Steve Johnson and sisters, Elaine (Ferris) Stewart and Patsy Clayton
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Hamilton Johnson; parents; stepmother, Betty Johnson; brother, Mickey Johnson and a half-brother, Herbie Johnson.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Columbus Fellowship club.
In keeping with Mr. Johnson’s wishes, cremation is planned.
Private inurnment will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
