Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a local man while investigating a possible theft in progress in Garden City.
Deputies were sent to the area of Kenmill Street at 4:39 a.m. Monday where security cameras showed a male inside property there.
On arrival, sheriff department K9 Jari and CPD K9 Argo were deployed to the suspect’s last known location. A short time later, Derek M. Weddle, 31, of 2830 12th St., was found hiding in a nearby wood line, deputies said. A cut catalytic converter and drug-related paraphernalia were found near Weddle.
Weddle was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, deputies said. He remains in jail in lieu of $65,000 bond.
