Mark McDonald // Columbus East senior football player

McDonald carried 12 times for 160 yards and three touchdowns Friday to help lead the Olympians to a 63-20 win against Bedford North Lawrence.

His performance last week: “We came out strong like I knew we would, and it went pretty well.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Trinidad and Tobago with my parents because it’s my homeland. Most of my family lives there.”

Andie Clark // Hauser junior volleyball player

Clark led the Jets with 94 digs in four matches last week to break the single-season school record and go over the 1,000 digs mark for her career.

Her performance last week: “I was very surprised and happy about how I got my 1,000 digs.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I really just listen to music and dance around with all my friends before the games.”

Favorite drink: “Sweet tea”

Favorite food: “Fettucine”

Favorite class: “AP U.S. History or AP Literature”

Favorite sports team: “North Carolina men’s basketball”

Favorite athlete: “Lauren Strivens (a Nebraska volleyball player)”

Role model: “My papaw (Gerald Henry, who died earlier this year)”

Best advice: “Always work hard, no matter how you’re feeling about any game or personally in your own life. Just go out and play hard work your hardest.”

Athletics goal: “To just keep beating records here at Hauser.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Perth, Australia. It’s just really pretty, and it’s a good destination to have a good vacation.”
