Crusaders win three times; coach picks up 100th win

SODDY DAISY, Tenneessee — Columbus Christian went 3-0 on the first day of the National Association of Christian Athletes volleyball tournament Wednesday, putting itself in position to qualify for the Division I bracket.

The Crusaders beat Apostolic Christian (Knoxville, Tennessee) 25-8, 25-15; Light (Danville, Kentucky) 25-21, 25-15 and Family Christian Academy (Orlando, Florida) 25-16, 25-14. All sets started with a 4-4 score.

Hannah Stair recorded 17 kills, two assists, one solo block, eight digs and 11 aces; Emily Stair notched five kills, 34 assists, five digs and 21 aces and Madison Henderson had 18 kills, six digs and five aces and Kayla Jones added one assist, nine digs and nine aces to lead Columbus Christian.

Also for the Crusaders, Lila Hudson tallied two kills and two digs. Kinidy Morgan posted four digs, Kenna Conrad pounded three kills, Lindsey Hunnicutt added two kills and Isabella VanCuren had one kill and one solo block

Columbus Christian (24-4-1) will play a pair of matches today in Dayton, Tennessee to determine if it will be placed in Division I or Division II in the four-division event.

The Crusaders’ second win on Wednesday was Sarah Stair’s 100th victory in her fourth year as head coach. She now has 101 total wins.

“It’s incredibly special to think of winning 100 matches in just four years,” she said. “Hannah and Madison and Kayla have won 100 matches in their high school careers, and for them to be able to celebrate it with me was really special.”
