NORTH VERNON — Jennings County Sheriff deputies arrested a North Vernon woman on suspected drugs and weapon charges following a recent traffic stop.

Deputies arrested Tamara K. Ross, 35, of 7113 Greenbriar Circle, North Vernon, on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine with a firearm, possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, obstruction of justice, and possession of paraphernalia after a K-9 vehicle search Wednesday.

Deputy Ian McPherson conducted the traffic stop in the area of U.S. Highway 50 and County Road 900W at 5 p.m. on Oct. 28, deputies said.

During the investigation, McPherson suspected the three occupants in the vehicle were involved in criminal activity, deputies said.

Deputies requested a K-9, and Seymour Police Department K-9 Officer Devlin McMendis and K-9 Edi arrived to assist. Edi alerted police to crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl and a handgun in the vehicle, deputies said.

Ross was determined to be in possession of the drugs and handgun, and was transported to the Jennings County Jail and held in lieu of $3,155 bond, deputies said.

The other two occupants of the vehicle were determined not to be involved and were released, deputies said.

It was later determined that the amount of fentanyl found was enough to kill 1,666 people, deputies said.
