ELIZABETHTOWN, INDIANA
Nancy C. Fodrea, 83, of Chapa Drive, Columbus, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.
Nancy was born June 20, 1937, in Elwood, Indiana to Marshall and Leona Cyphers Tolle. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1955. On Nov. 19, 1955, she married Randall (Randy) C. Fodrea at the Sandcreek – Azalia Friends Meeting. They were married for almost 55 years before his death in 2010. She was a devoted mother her entire life and a very hard-working farmer’s wife until Randy retired from farming in 1996. She then worked briefly at San Souci in Columbus before taking a job with the Family Nutrition Program, an outreach of the Purdue Extension Service. There she taught nutrition lessons for 10 years.
She was an active member of the Sandcreek – Azalia Friends Meeting for over 70 years, teaching Sunday School and serving on several committees. She was also a 63 year member of the Sandcreek Extension Homemakers Club.
Nancy had a bright smile and an infectious laugh. She was warm and caring to family and friends alike. After suffering a very serious car accident in May 2009, Nancy was in different rehab facilities until Jan. 2010. In those places, she was getting rehabilitation, but also tending to the emotional needs of other rehab patients. She was always caring for someone, even as she herself continued to heal. Other patients would often comment about how encouraging it was to have Nancy around!
