Koch, Lucas leading polls for Statehouse seats

Bartholomew County voters overwhelmingly voted to keep District 44 Sen. Eric Koch, R-Bedford, and District 69 Rep. Jim Lucas, R-Seymour, in their Indiana Statehouse seats, but final results from surrounding counties weren’t available to The Republic by press time on Nov. 3.

Koch led Democrat Cynthia “Cinde” Wirth, D-Columbus, with 59 out of 101 precincts reporting on Tuesday. Koch had 23,522 votes by press time while Wirth totaled 8,251.

Lucas won 74% of the vote in Bartholomew County with 414 votes.

He also received 4,734 votes (69%) of the 6,853 votes cast Tuesday in Jackson County. Absentee and early voting, which includes 10,000 ballots, or more than half of the total vote, had not been counted by Jackson County officials by deadline.

Jennings and Jefferson counties’ numbers were also not available by The Republic’s deadline.
