Popular ‘Country Christmas’ at Taulman Farms closes abruptly

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Over a mile of elaborate holiday displays for the public to see that was set up on a Wayne Township farm has been closed for the remainder of the holiday season.

“Columbus Country Christmas” at Taulman Farms, 10335 South County Road 400W, made that announcement on social media late Tuesday night.

During a family meeting, the decision to discontinue public tours this year was made “for personal reasons that we don’t care to disclose at this time,” said Pam Taulman, who owns the farm with her husband, Marcus.

But she did say there was no government interference involved.

Bartholomew County Zoning Enforcement officer Bill Klakamp, as well as two representatives of the Columbus – Bartholomew Planning Department, say they were unaware of any violations at the 1.2 mile holiday light display.

Bartholomew County Director of Environmental Health Linc Fulp said his office didn’t receive a complaint regarding the family’s operation.

Fulp said he was aware concession items were being sold without a permit, and has plans to help the Taulman family in obtaining that permit.

“But our only concern was food sales,” Fulp said. “Other than that, we would have just told everybody to enjoy the tour.”

Taulman says she hopeful that ‘Columbus Country Christmas’ will be able to reopen in late 2021.
