A proud veteran, long time resident of Bartholomew County, friend, and servant of Bartholomew County has died. Carroll “C.L.” Green, 93, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020.

Mr. Green was preceded in death by his wife Agnes Irene Green, and 5 siblings.

He is survived by his loving family; two daughters Carol (Warren) Hoobyar and Teresa Mayfield; two grandchildren Ryan (Michelle) Mayfield and Leslie (Eric) Burton; he celebrated 14 great-grandchildren; as well as his previous spouse and family friend Dorothy Green.

Mr. Green was born June 11, 1927 in Story City, Iowa, the son of Samuel and Clara Nielson Green. He was a member of Mountain Baptist Church in Seymour, Indiana. C.L. came to Bartholomew County in 1957 to serve as the county’s Conservation Officer. He was a trusted and awarded car salesman as well. C.L.’s heart was farming and he won the 1980 Noblett Forestry Award. His home grown produce graced many tables in Columbus and the surrounding areas.

He loved dancing and spending time with family and friends. You could find C.L. most days at a table with the guys at the local Dairy Queen, sharing laughs and telling stories. He will be greatly missed by all he knew. He leaves a legacy of honesty, kindness, and friendship to all who knew him. Rest in peace dear one.

A private graveside service will be held at the Indiana Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Madison at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
