OVID, MI

Stephen A. Olinger was born May 3, 1955 in Columbus, Indiana, and died unexpectedly on Jan. 8, 2021 at his home in Ovid, Michigan.

Steve was a proud member of the Columbus High School Class of 1973; the last huge class that was not divided between two schools. He loved playing football for the Bulldogs and was so proud to watch his son, Matt, play football at North too. After graduating, he attended Ball State University.

Steve was a sports fan through and through. He loved the Bulldogs, IU Basketball, the Colts, the Detroit Tigers and always the Indy 500.

He met Sandy, the love of his life, in 2002 and moved to Michigan shortly after. Steve and Sandy were married in St. Johns, MI in 2019. He loved to spend time at their Lake City cottage, floating on the pontoon with a beer and spending time with family. He was easy going, fun-loving, and considered many, many people his good friends. He could talk to anyone for hours about sports and could quote many movies. Steve always amazed his family and friends with his knowledge and passion for history and trivia. Steve found the humor in life, loved a good laugh, and was so much fun to be around. Above all, he valued family and friendship and had a huge heart.

Although we are sad right now, our memories of him will always make us smile. “Stevo” will be missed by many, especially his wife, Sandy Fox-Olinger of Ovid, MI; son, Matt (Cara) Olinger of Mooresville, IN; stepdaughters, Lindsey Fox of Lansing, MI, and Kimberly Fox (Tony Mazur) of Royal Oak, MI; sister, Natalie (Brad Stine) Olinger-Stine of Columbus; parents-in-law, Stanley (Mary) Divish of St. John’s, MI, brother-in-law, Charlie Divish of Ashley, MI; sister-in-law, Carol Throckmorton of Chesterfield, VA; grandsons, Logan, Lucas and Huntley Olinger; nieces and nephews Clayton Stine, Elinor Stine, Johnny Throckmorton, Jeannie (Jonathan) Reveley; great nieces Gabby Reveley and Scarlet, Audrey and Camryn Throckmorton.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Maxine Olinger, and brother-in-law, Buddie Throckmorton.

Steve’s wishes were to be cremated. A burial at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus will take place at a later date.
