
COMMISKEY
Gary Lee Applegate, 74, of Commiskey, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville.
Born May 15, 1946, in Austin, he was the son of Earl and Doris (Dart) Applegate. He married Carol Hendrix on January 3, 1970, at the Coffee Creek Christian Church in Commiskey; she survives.
Gary was a 1966 graduate of Austin High School and attended Spencerian College Kentucky. He worked as a DST-Supervisor for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for 32 years before retiring in 2003 and had previously worked for the Shoe Factory in Crothersville. He was a member of Coffee Creek Christian Church where he had once served as an Elder of the Church. Gary enjoyed reading, working puzzles, hunting, and fishing, watching I.U. Basketball and being with his grandchildren.
Surviving with his wife, Carol, is a son, Nathan (Sarah) Applegate of Commiskey, brother, Norman Applegate of Austin; sisters, Debbie (Doug) Hall of Crothersville and Nita (Virgil) Vaughn of Scottsburg; grandchildren, Nathan Cyrus Applegate, and Bailey Applegate, both of Commiskey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Benjamin Earl Applegate; and brother, George Applegate.
A funeral service for Gary will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021, at the Coffee Creek Christian Church in Paris Crossing with the Rev. John Riggs officiating. Family and friends may call at the Coffee Creek Christian Church on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Coffee Creek Christian Church Cemetery.
