Rebecca Gail Battin

COLUMBUS

The world lost a beloved mother and grandmother, Rebecca Gail Battin, on Jan. 3, 2021. Rebecca, age 74, died surrounded by her children, Matt, Michael, and Meredith. She battled numerous health ailments over the last several years, but it never stopped her from enjoying friends, family, bingo, trivia and playing cards.

Earlier in life she enjoyed antiques and collectables, cooking and recipe sharing as well as being a dedicated documentarian of family photos and history.

A longtime resident of Columbus, Rebecca worked for many years at Columbus Regional Hospital in the payroll department. Her colleagues knew her as the smiling face that handed them their paychecks on each payday.

Rebecca was born in Martinsville, Indiana on Dec. 20, 1946. She was a 1965 graduate of Martinsville High School. She attended Indiana University and spoke often of attending the 1968 Rose Bowl.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents Paul & Mary Margaret Whitlow.

She is survived by her three children and six grandchildren.

A private service and remembrance gathering will be organized and held at a later date. She will be interned at Nebo Park Cemetery in Martinsville. Friends wishing to honor Rebecca are invited to donate in her name to the American Heart Association and/or Alzheimer’s Association.
