Local man accused of felony drug charges after traffic stop

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a local man on felony drug charges after his vehicle was stopped for traffic violation on Thursday afternoon.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday, CPD officers stopped a vehicle driven by Brian A. Jones, 45, of Columbus for a minor traffic violation near Morningside Drive and Nolting Street, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department.

The officers noted that Jones was visibly nervous while speaking with him and they requested a police service dog to respond to the scene. A short time later, CPD K-9 Argo alerted to the odor of narcotics inside Jones’ vehicle. Officers reportedly located nearly 16 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of heroin while searching Jones’ clothing, Harris said.

He was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and felony possession of heroin.
