Local man accused of dealing in methamphetamine

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a local man for dealing methamphetamine after a large amount of the drug was located during a traffic stop on Thursday evening.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., CPD officers conducted a traffic stop near 11th Street and Pearl Street. During the course of the traffic stop, officers noted that a passenger in the vehicle, Finis K. Carpenter, 44, of Columbus was visibly shaking and appeared nervous while he was seated in the car, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

A CPD police service dog alerted a short time later to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. Officers later recovered nearly 57 grams of methamphetamine as well other drugs including synthetic marijuana as a result of the traffic stop, Harris said.

Carpenter was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded with a 48 hour hold on preliminary charges of felony dealing in methamphetamine, felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug and possession of a look-a-like substance.
