CPD arrests local man who fled on foot

Clifford Roberts

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers on a foot patrol detail arrested a local man on several charges after he attempted to flee after the officers observed the suspect littering early Friday morning in the 1500 block of Chestnut Street.

The officers spoke with the man at about 1 a.m, who was later identified as Clifford D. Roberts, 37, of Columbus and asked for his identification, said Lt. Matt Harris.

A short time later, Roberts attempted to flee from the officers on foot. Officers followed Roberts’ footprints in the snow and located him hiding in a shed behind a residence in the 1400 block of Sycamore Street, Harris said.

Roberts was taken into custody and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on  preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, a Bartholomew County warrant and a Jennings County warrant, Harris said.
