COLUMBUS, Ind. — Southside Elementary School teacher and musician Mark Yeaton’s maple Indiana Special guitar boasts another Hoosier-born star signature. Indianapolis native and global opera star and singing sensation Angela Brown signed it days ago when she taped her Black History Month concert with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. The concert is streaming today through Feb. 24. Those who aren’t season subscribers can get $10 tickets to see the show at thecip.org.
Yeaton had his state-shaped instrument specially made in 1999 after he received the Teacher Creativity Fellowship grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc. It features the Indiana state flag insignia and autographs from such luminaries as race driver Tony Stewart, Garfield cartoonist Jim Davis, high school hoops star Bobby Plump, actress Florence Henderson, and others.
