Mites Flames Blue wins President’s Cup title

The Columbus Flames 8U Mites Blue won the Presidents' Day Cup. The Columbus Mites Flames Blue won the Presidents’ Day Cup. They beat the Lexington Thoroughbreds White 3-2, Champaign Chiefs 3-2 and Lexington Thoroughbreds Blue 9-0, Louisville Ice Cardinals 7-0 before downing the Champaign Chiefs 6-1 in the title game.

Oliver Jamerson led the team with seven goals and three assists, Duncan Saner netted five goals and two assists, Cayden Long recorded four goals and seven assists, Carsen Sims notched four goals and one assist, Chance Matthis had three goals and three assists, Colton Pepmeier added three goals and one assist, Jonah Oliphant had one goal and four assists and Lucas Oswald added one goal and three assists. Dalton Larsh was in net with a save percentage of 90.74 with 49 saves on 54 shots.

Mites Flames Orange beat the South Bend Fighting Irish Green 6-0 and South Bend Fighting Irish White 6-1, fell to the Indy Junior Fuel Carmel 4-3 and Indy Junior Fuel Fishers 6-4, downed Nashville Flyers 4-2 and lost to Battery 8U Elite 6-0. Maddox Coy led the team with eight goals and one assist. Carter Harris netted six goals and three assists, Avery Orgass recorded three goals and two assists, Dalton Larsh and Daniel Wallace each notched  two goals and two assists, Chance Matthis scored two goals, Lukas Jozsa had two assists and Cayden Long and Hiromu Udo each added one assist. Cayden Long was in net with and 84.30 save percentage with 102 saves on 121 shots.

The Columbus Icemen beat Zionsville 2-1 in overtime. Icemen and South Stars Red 4-2. Ethan Kuniewicz led the team with four goals and one assist. Alex Clark netted one goal and one assist, Will Kushner scored one goal, Even Federle had three assists and Logan Morris added one assist. Jacob McMullen was in net both games.

Columbus Flames Peewee A beat Chelsea Chiefs 08 AA 4-3. Lance Kitterman scored two goals, Eduardo Aranda and Will Jamerson each had one goal and Sawyer Patterson and River Degner each added one assist. Lane Barringer was in net.

Columbus Flames Peewee B tied 12U Fishers All Stars 4-4 and won 5-2. Ryan McGhehey led the team with four goals and two assists. Lillian Grunow scored two goals, Ayden Richarson had one goal and two assists, Ashton Nguyen added one goal and one assist and Jonah Young scored one goal. Gabe Marsh was in net both games.

Squirt Flames A tied Northern Kentucky 4-4 and won 7-1. Brooks Larsh led the team with five goals and four assists. Aaron Warble netted two goals and two assists; Carter Davis recorded two goals and one assist; Kai Bergmann had one goal and one assist; Henry Schloemer scored one goal and Thomas King, Carter Harris and Holden Thompson all added assist. Canyon Long was in net with a save percentage of 80.77.

Hansons claim top seed

The Columbus Broomball League playoffs are set to start today, and Hansons are the top seed after finishing unbeaten in the regular season.

Hansons (10-0-2) beat Toyota Tsunamis 6-3 last week behind four goals from Matt Street and one each from Matt Psota and Eric Spelling. Clayton McNealy, Dalton McNealy and Greg McNealy scored for Tsunamis (1-10-1).

The Steagles wrapped up the No. 2 seed with an 8-1 win against Jennings County BC. Ben Eckhart, Kyle Roshak and Ryan Holt all scored two goals, and Jacob Edwards and Thomas Smith each scored one for Steagles (9-2-1). Darrien Castetter had the goal for JCBC (2-9-1).

Our Name Is Earl (4-7-1) notched a 3-0 forfeit win against CCA (7-5).

No. 3 seed CCA will meet No. 6 Toyota Tsunamis at 4:30 p.m. today, with the winner facing The Steagles at 6:30 p.m. No. 4 Our Name Is Earl and No. 5 Jennings County BC will play at 5:30 p.m., with the winner meeting Hansons at 7:30 p.m. The fifth-, third- and first-place games will be Feb. 28.
