INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North and Columbus East won’t have any boys swimmers vying for a state championship this afternoon, but both will have swimmers competing in today’s consolation finals at IUPUI’s Indiana University Natatorium.
The Bull Frogs will be swimming in four consolation events, while East will be swimming in two. The top eight times in each event from Friday’s two preliminary sessions made the finals, while ninth through 16th in each event made the consolation heats.
North senior Christopher Lee had the 10th-fastest qualifying in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.39 seconds. He’ll also be swimming in the consolation finals in the 50 freestyle after tying for 11th with a time of 21.08.

East sophomore Brady Beyer will be in the consolation finals of the 500 freestyle after clocking a time of 4:39.72 and the 100 breaststroke finishing in a tie for 12th in 57.73.
North’s 200 freestyle relay team of Daniel Utterback, David Fry, Matthew Goble and Aidan McAlister just sneaked into the consolation finals by qualifying 16th in 1:28.14. North’s 400 freestyle relay team of Utterback, Lee, Carlos Fabian Aguilar and Fry will also be in the consolation finals, qualifying 14th place in 3:12.60.
The Bull Frogs’ 200 medley relay team of Lee, Pratt Badve, Fry and Goble finished 20th with a time of 1:38.20. Utterback took 26th in the 200 freestyle in 1:44.91 and was 22nd in the 100 freestyle in 47.34 also did not advance to today’s finals or conoslations in those events.
The Olympians 200 medley relay team of Dathan Wolf, Beyer, Mason Curry and Chad Kelly finished 27th with a time of 1:39.81.
The state championship and consolation swims will begin at 3:30 p.m. today.
