Letter: State, not federal, government should increase minimum wage

Regarding increasing the minimum wage, the Democrats in Washington, D.C. have dug-in for $15 or nothing. This is too high, it would drastically affect businesses and cause layoffs.

However, the current $7.25 is too low — it has been there for years and $7.25 won’t buy what it used to due to inflation.

So why not compromise? Since the federal government is dragging its heels, Indiana could raise the wage just for our state on its own.

I suggest raising the Hoosier wage to $10 an hour. I think businesses could afford this without being unfairly burdened, while still benefiting entry-level workers.
