ST. LOUIS — Columbus East graduates Graham and Cayden Rooks are still alive in the NCAA Wrestling Championships after each won a match on Thursday.
Cayden Rooks, the No. 32-seed at 141, opened with a a 10-1 major decision over No. 33-seed Vinny Vespa of Hofstra before falling to No. 1-seed Jaydin Eierman of Iowa by a 20-5 tech fall. Rooks bounced back with a 6-1 decision over No. 17-seed Mackenzie Bell of Rider in the consolation bracket.
Graham Rooks, the No. 21-seed at 149, lost an 8-7 decision to No. 12-seed Max Murin of Iowa in the first round. Rooks rebounded with a 9-1 major decision over No. 28-seed Peyton Omania of Michigan State in the consolation bracket.
