Wrong-way driver on U.S. 31 arrested by deputies

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Nineveh man after he was accused of driving the wrong way on North U.S. 31 on Saturday.

At 10:58 p.m.. an off-duty sheriff’s deputy contacted Deputy Brandon Sellers about a vehicle that nearly hit him head-on in the northbound lanes of U.S. 31.

Sellers and Deputy Dustin Newland located the suspect vehicle near Driftside Circle K, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic, deputies said. Deputies successfully stopped the vehicle before it struck anyone.

The driver, Bradley Todd Alexander, 33, Nineveh, was suspected of being intoxicated, deputies said. After being taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, Alexander was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of: Endangerment, reckless driving, operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator, and an out-of-county felony warrant.

Alexander remains in jail without bond, jail officials said.
