Lane Lauderbaugh, who led South Decatur to a Mid-Hoosier Conference title, has been named to this year’s Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Senior Small School All-State team.
The IBCA picks a Senior and Underclass Supreme 15, then picks 15 different players for Senior and Underclass Large School and Small School All-State teams and others for Senior and Underclass honorable mention lists.
South Decatur’s Hunter Johnson was named Underclass Small School All-State. Columbus North’s Blake Barker and Trinity Lutheran’s Tyler Goecker were named Senior honorable mention. Edinburgh’s Caleb Dewey and Jennings County’s Jacob Vogel made Underclass honorable mention.
Olympians make IBCA Academic All-State
Five Columbus East players have been added to the IBCA Academic All-State boys basketball team that originally came out last week.
East seniors Casey Bartholomew, Tyler Boyer, Ben Major, Daniel Murphy and Jacob Pierce are honorable mention selections. They join first-team picks Blake Barker of Columbus North and Lane Lauderbaugh of South Decatur and honorable mention honorees Reese Harmon, Jakub Trusina and Max Wilson of North, Noah Detling and Isaac Roberts of Edinburgh and Tyler Goecker and Jack Marksberry of Trinity Lutheran.
Girls honorable mention selections included North’s Emily Herndon, Alexa McKinley, Kanon Matsuno and Madison White; Hauser’s Marnie Schwartzkopf and Aunaka Wasil and Jennings County’s Addyson Kent and Brooke Mowery.
East’s Warren headed to Rose-Hulman
Columbus East senior Donivan Warren will continue his football career at Rose-Hulman.
Warren, an offensive lineman, helped the Olympians to the Hoosier Hills Conference title last fall.
North’s Nielbalski to golf at St. Francis
Columbus North senior Jacob Niedbalski has committed to continue his golf career at St. Francis.
Niedbalski played varsity as a freshman and sophomore and helped the Bull Dogs tie for fifth at the state finals in 2019. Last summer, he qualified for the match play tournament in the Boys State Junior Championship.
North duo makes state bowling finals
Two Columbus North Bowling Club bowlers have qualified for this weekend’s state finals in Fort Wayne.
Senior Thomas McCarrick is one of 24 boys who have made it to state, and freshman Alexis Jones is one of 18 girls who have qualified.
Both made it through sectional, regional and semistate competition to become the first North bowlers in at least a decade to reach the state finals.
McKinley named North girls basketball MVP
Senior Alexa McKinley, who led Columbus North to the Conference Indiana title, has been selected MVP of the Bull Dogs girls basketball team.
Sophomore Lauren Barker won the Bull Dog Award, and junior Kylah Lawson won the Outstanding Participant Award. Senior Kanon Matsuno won the Most Improved Award, and seniors Emily Herndon and Madison White won the Spirit Award.
Freshman Greta Brown won the Martha Kalb Memorial Award, which goes to a JV player who displays determination, teamwork, persistence and heart.
