NOBLESVILLE — Class 4A No. 4 Columbus North overcame an early 3-0 deficit to post an 11-5 upset of 4A No. 1 Zionsville Friday in the first round of the Noblesville Tournament.
The Bull Dogs (1-0-1) trailed 3-1 after three innings before scored three in the fourth, one in the fifth and six in the sixth to open an 11-3 lead.
Kyler McIntosh went the distance for North, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out five and walking one.
Dyllan Redmon led the Bull Dogs at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Will Baker went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs, and Blake Huffman went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Meanwhile, Columbus East played twice in the tournament on Friday, falling to 4A No. 6 Center Grove 17-0 in five innings in its season opener before bouncing back with a 10-0, five-inning victory against Fishers.
Will Boyer threw a two-hit shutout in the win against Fishers for the Olympians (1-1). Parker Harrison went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, and Kaden Wise had a double and two RBIs.
North will play in the semifinals at 1 p.m. today against the winner of Friday’s late game between Noblesville and Mt. Vernon. The Bull Dogs would then play Franklin in the third-place game at 4 p.m. or Center Grove in the championship game at 7 p.m.
East will play in the fifth-place game at 4 p.m. against the winner between Zionsville and the Noblesville-Mt. Vernon loser.
