Before a standing-room-only crowd, including Columbus North High School’s varsity baseball team, Columbus Plan Commission voted 8-3 in favor of the site plan detailing construction of an $8.56 million sports complex at Water Street and Lafayette Avenue.

Harrison Lake Country Club held a ground-breaking ceremony for a 2,100-square-foot bathhouse, a 140,000-gallon swimming pool and new practice greens, all part of an expansion and renovation marking the club’s 50th anniversary.
1971
A truck carrying Henry Moore’s 8-ton Large Arch sculpture arrived in Columbus and was parked on Fifth Street near the Bartholomew County Public Library Plaza where the sculpture was to be set up.
