East sweeps tri meet
Columbus East swept a tri meet on Thursday. The Olympian boys scored 74 points to 58 for Jennings County and 27 for Brownstown Central, while the East girls scored 112 to 39 for Jennings and 15 for Brownstown.
For the Olympian girls, Katie Hagan won the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches) and 300-meter hurdles (51.8 seconds), and Gabi Schuetz took the long jump (14-4 1/4) and 100 (13.4). Other winners were Elise LaSell in the high jump (4-8), Emma Gray in the 100 hurdles (17.8), Chloe Krueger in the 1,600 (5:42.0), Jenna Guse in the 400 (1:06.0), Halle Randle in the 200 (28.4) and Carly Otte in the 3,200 (13:05.0). East also swept the 4×800 (11:20.0), 4×100 (53.2) and 4×400 (4:28.0) relays.
Jennings’ Kenna Maschino won the shot put (34-1), and Liz Wahlman took the 800 (2:30.0).
Crase Bergman won the long jump (21-10) and 200 (23.6), and Henrique Carvalho took the 100 hurdles (17.5) and 300 hurdles (45.2) to lead the Olympian boys. Other winners were Gavin Edgecomb in the pole vault (8-6), Elliott Koopman in the high jump (5-8), Anthony Lloyd in the 100 (11.7) and Tyler Thompson in the 400 (54.5). East also won the 4×100 (44.9) and 4×400 (3:39.0) relays.
Zane Ortlieb led the Panthers with wins in the shot (44- 1/2) and discus (134-9). Gavin Hendrix took the 1,600 (4:42.0), Aiden Ernstes captured the 800 (2:12.0), Eli Wahlman won the 3,200 (10:40.3) and Jennings took the 4×800 relay (9:20.4).
BASEBALL
Jets blank Chargers
HOPE — Eli Miller and Aaron Rork combined on a two-hitter to lead Hauser to a 7-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference win against North Decatur.
Levi Gollmer went 2 for 4 with a double, and Sam Miller went 2 for 4 for the Jets (2-2, 1-0). Koby Johnson smacked a home run.
Cougars run-rule Lancers
EDINBURGH — South Decatur snapped a 1-1 tie with five runs in the second inning and went on to post an 11-1 MHC win at Edinburgh.
Wyatt Gatewood went 2 for 4 with a double for the Cougars (2-6, 1-2). Devin Pate and Ben Stier combined on a five-hitter.
Starter Noah Detling took the loss for the Lancers (0-2), who were playing for the first time since March 30.
SOFTBALL
Jets down Chargers
HOPE — Hauser took its first MHC loss of the season, a 5-1 setback against North Decatur.
Paige McDaniel threw a seven-hitter for the Jets (6-2, 2-1).
Cougars shock Lancers
EDINBURGH — South Decatur jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings and went on to post a 5-2 MHC win at Edinburgh.
Loryn Pate went 2 for 2 and threw a six-hitter for the Cougars (2-3, 1-0) Madison Mikulec also went 2 for 3.
Mackenzie Whetstine went 2 for 2, and Carly Cowan homered for the Lancers (3-5, 0-3).
Panthers down Pirates
GREENSBURG — Jennings County broke open a 3-2 game with four runs in the sixth to post a 7-2 victory at Greensburg.
Taylor Mowery went 2 for 3 with a triple, and Skylar Weber went 2 for 4 for the Panthers (4-6). Shelby Wilson threw a five-hitter.
GIRLS TENNIS
Owls top Olympians
Columbus East was without No. 1 singles player Ayano Nomura and fell to Seymour 5-0.
Cathrine Millwood lost to Brooke Schafstall 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Katie Hong fell to Sandy Cerino 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Ashlynn Waddle lost to Valeria Ramirez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (1-5).
East’s Cassidy Schnur and Shruthika Kumar fell to Avery Ragan and Mallory Moore 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Katey Rieckers and Monica Burton lost to Madalyn Baurle and Elise Hartung 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

EDINBURGH — Hauser picked up its first win of the season, a 3-2 MHC triumph at Edinburgh.
Bella Kilps beat Jessica Walsh 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for the Jets (1-2, 1-0). Aunaka Wasil and Emily Harker topped Peyton Bryant and Alyssa Funkhouser 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Gabby Johns and Charlie Clark downed Gracie Meyers and Zoey Sida 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Edinburgh’s Annelise Lollar beat Andie Clark 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The Lancers’ Bethany Burton topped Katelynn Everroad 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Panthers nip Warriors
SCOTTSBURG — Jennings County pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 doubles to claim a 3-2 win at Scottsburg.
Reagan Brown beat Lyla Waskom 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Panthers (4-1). Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson downed Claire Routt and Brinley Soloe 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Hannah Green and Cassidy Mull topped Melea Luttrell and Mia Collins 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Jennings’ Tatum Brown fell to Grace Routt 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Carmen Kopitzke lost to Olivia Fugate 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singls.
Eagles notch first win
ELLETTSVILLE — Brown County claimed its first win of the season, a 5-0 Western Indiana Conference victory at Edgewood.
Julia Williams beat Kora Martin 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Anna Tipton downed Keelyn Tiller 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Anna Stogsdill topped Jenna Pace 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (1-1, 1-0).
Brown County’s Londyn Koester and Abi Bowman beat Stevie Farley and Katie Wilson 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Mattie Satter and Katie Tipton topped Caroline Chandler and Katie Stephens 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
BOYS GOLF
Lancers take second
EDINBURGH — Edinburgh finished second in a tri match at Timbergate. Morristown won with a 193 to 206 for the Lancers and 215 for Southwestern (Shelby).
Edinburgh’s Max Blandford won medalist honors with a 41. Trevor Moon carded a 51, Cash Cunningham added a 56, Devyn Milburn and Mason Calhoun each shot 58 and Keegan Smith had a 62.
Eagles finish third
BLOOMINGTON — Brown County finished third in a tri match at Cascades. Edgewood won with a 191, to 194 for Owen Valley and 237 for the Eagles.
Cooper VanNess led Brown County with a 45. Bradley Arndt, Jordan Burnett and Clay Austin all shot 64 and Dylan Taylor 68.
