COLUMBUS
Ivan Jack Smith, 82, of Columbus passed from this life on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 5:55 a.m. at his residence.
Jack was born on October 6, 1938 in Richmond, Kentucky the son of Silas and Mable Johnson Smith. On June 22, 1957 he married Janet C. Wells.
Jack had formerly worked at Arvin Industries and Maggard Salvage and went on to own and operate Smith’s Salvage and then Smith’s Auto Repair where he restored cars. He enjoyed dirt track racing and racing at Clifty Racetrack, North Vernon, Brownstown Speedway, and Columbus 25th Street and numerous other racetracks. Jack loved fishing, watching westerns and Nascar. He had a genuine love for his whole family.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Janet C. Smith of Columbus; daughters, Cindy (Walter) Roberts, Connie (Ron) Colvin, and Beverly Lyle all of Columbus; grandchildren, Jayson (Tara) Lyle, Shelby (Melanie) Lyle, Jason (Jen) Colvin, Kaitlyn Colvin; great grandchildren, Isaiah, Sawyer, Garrett, Ivan and Denver that will arrive in the fall; brothers, Ronnie R. (Jean) Smith of Freetown and Roy L. Smith of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teresa K. Smith; a brother, Donnie Smith; and a sister, Ruby Smith.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 12:00p.m. at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Reverend Charles Wright officiating.
Family and friends may call for visitation on Wednesday from 10:00a.m. to time of services at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike.
We do ask that visitors follow the social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required.
Burial will follow at New Bellsville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given through the funeral home to donor’s choice.
