The Columbus Parks and Recreation Department has hired a new sports program manager.
The department announced that Brady Buckley has been selected as the new sports program manager, supervising the Hamilton Community Center & Ice Arena manager, the golf pro/manager and the sports coordinator. He will report to Associate Director of Recreation Nikki Murphy.
“We are incredibly excited to have Brady join our Parks and Recreation team,” said Murphy. “Columbus, Indiana is a community with an impressive sports culture woven into the fabric of its identity. We rely on individuals, like Brady, who want to become a part of this unique community and who bring with them a new, fresh perspective on opportunities and improvements to our existing facilities and programs.”
Murphy previously served as the director of sports programs. In January, the department announced that she would take on the new role of associate director of recreation. The position was added after recommendation from an extensive study of the department’s structure by the Eppley Institute for Parks and Public Lands.
Buckley previously served as the supervisor of athletics for the City of Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation Department since 2018.
In this role, he was responsible for management of all sports programs, including youth and adult sports and tournaments. He also served as the interim golf supervisor for his department during COVID-19.
Buckley’s other experience includes program management in a community center, club director for Metro Parks basketball and volleyball academies, coordinator of the Cincinnati Reds Youth Baseball Program and coordinator of the department’s esports league.
He has a master’s degree in recreation and sports administration from Western Kentucky University, a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Murray State University, and an Intercollegiate Athletic Administration Graduate Certificate from Western Kentucky University. He is also a certified youth sports administrator through the National Alliance for Youth Sports.
