Olympians top Panthers

Jennings County’s Brett Silvey won medalist honors with a 46, but Columbus East had a pair of 47s and claimed a 202-210 victory Tuesday at Otter Creek.

Cole Schaefer and Pierce Arnholt each shot 47 for the Olympians, who were without top golfer Kody Reynolds. JT Kuhlman carded a 53, Casey Bartholomew added a 55, Spencer Erfmeier shot 57 an Jamall Starks had a 58.

Jack George carded a 51 for the Panthers. Jake Grider added a 56, Chad Gasper shot 57, Tanner Stearns had a 59 and Rowan Cook finished with a 62.

East falls to Warriors

Whiteland won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win at Columbus East.

Cathrine Millwood fell to Sarah Scott 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Katie Hong lost to Sara Ulrich 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Ashlyn Waddle fell to Madison Nieto 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (1-7).

East Shruthika Kumar and Cassidy Schnur lost to Molly Brunson and Natalie Cloer 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles. Monica Burton and Katey Rieckers fell to Kaylee Hoagland and Lauren Trimble 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Jets blank Rushville

HOPE — Hauser posted shutouts in two of the five matches in rolling to a 5-0 win against Rushville.

Andie Clark beat Alexis Fenimore 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Bella Kilps downed Lexey Yager 6-3, 7-5 and No. 2 singles and Kaitlynn Everroad blanked Audrey Gulley 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Jets (4-2).

Hauser’s Aunaka Wasil and Emily Harker topped Lily Yager and Josie Fields 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Charlie Clark and Gabby Johns blanked Isabella Wilson and Nova Tackett 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Panthers sweep Mustangs

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County dropped only six games in four matches in a 5-0 win against New Washington.

Reagan Brown blanked Sydney Owens 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Tatum Brown beat Kyndal Huff 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Carmen Kopitzke won by default at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (6-1).

Jennings’ Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson downed Macy Fields and Grace Ellison 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Faith Heaton and Lucy Brown topped Jordan Standiford and Sami Canter 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

BASEBALL

Pirates rally past Jets

HOPE — Hauser led 11-5 after five innings, but Greensburg rallied with five in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth to pull out a 13-11, eight-inning victory.

Landon Asher went 3 for 5 with three RBIs for the Jets (5-4). Koby Johnson also had three RBIs.

Floyd stops Panthers

FLOYDS KNOBS — Three Floyd Central pitchers combined on a one-hitter in a 9-0 win against Jennings County.

Carson McNulty had the lone hit for the Panthers (2-2).

TRACK AND FIELD

Panther boys win tri

NORTH VERNON — The Jennings County boys picked up a tri-meet victory, scoring 106 points to 45 for Silver Creek and two for Rock Creek Academy.

Branden Braun won the long jump (18 feet, 7 inches) and 200 meters (24.5 seconds), and Zane Ortlieb took the shot put (44-0) and discus (131-4) to lead the Panthers. Other winners were Evan Sochacki in the pole vault (8-0), Gavin Hendrix in the 1,600 (4:45), Elijah Hatton in the 400 (56.8), Will Barnes in the 300 hurdles (47.4) and Aiden Ernstes in the 3,200 (10:44). Jennings also swept the 4×800 (8:52), 4×100 (56.8) and 4,400 (3:59) relays.

Silver Creek won the girls meet with 91 1/3 points to 63 2/3 for the Panthers and 11 for Rock Creek. Jennings’ Kenna Maschino won the shot (35-4) and discus (95-8). Liz Wahlman took the 1,600 (6:01), and Sarah Poole captured the 3,200 (13:20).

SOFTBALL

Hornets top Trinity

SEYMOUR — Henryville scored twice in the first inning and went on to hand Trinity Lutheran a 6-0 defeat.

Bailey Reynolds went 4 for 4 for the Cougars (6-4). Bailey Tabeling went 3 for 4.
