Trinity Lutheran High School senior Henry Hall recently was recognized as a 2021 Regional Academic All-Star.

The distinction recognizes seniors who excel in the classroom and are actively involved in their schools and communities and take on leadership roles.

The program, now in its 35th year, is produced by the Indiana Association of School Principals.

Forty high school seniors from throughout Indiana have been named 2021 Indiana Academic All-Stars, and 50 other students, including Hall, have been recognized as Regional Academic All-Star honorees.

The students were selected from a field of 270 outstanding nominees from the state’s private and public accredited schools. Each high school may nominate one senior for consideration as an Academic All-Star.

Lori Moses, school counselor at Trinity, said there are five regions in Indiana, and 10 students are chosen from each region. She said the IASP has a nomination sheet its sends to the schools, and part of that is a spreadsheet where students’ grades and test scores are entered and they receive an overall score.

After the information is collected, a short list of students who are most qualified is drawn up, and then the school picks the candidate who is the best fit.

This year, that student was Henry, who is the son of Adam and Kristy Hall of Columbus.

At Trinity, Hall, 18, is involved in National Honor Society, tennis and Academic Super Bowl, and he is one of the heads for the lights crew for the school musical.

Outside of school, he is an usher at his church, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church Columbus.

After graduating, Hall said he plans to attend the University of Evansville to pursue a degree in civil engineering.

For the Academic All-Star program, the nominated student from each high school chooses an influential educator and writes an essay about that person.

Hall wrote his essay about Justin Vorthmann. Vorthmann teaches in the math, science and engineering departments and is the National Honor Society adviser. He has taught at Trinity for 11 years.

Hall and Vorthmann each were awarded a certificate of recognition, which they received in the mail.
