New graduates honored in jail addiction programs

Staff Reports

The Bartholomew County Jail’s BART program, which stands for Begin, Accept, Reveal and Transform, has announced its latest graduates.

The program is an evidence-based addiction treatment program offered in separate cohorts for males and females within the jail, supervised by addiction treatment coordinator Theresa Patton. The program began in January 2020 at the jail.

“By turning a portion of the Bartholomew County Jail into a drug treatment facility, we created the ability to treat inmates who can benefit from a treatment plan,” said Bartholomew County Sheriff Chief Deputy Maj. Chris Lane. “I am extremely proud of these men and women.”

Using the Matrix Model for Criminal Justice Systems, participants in the jail receive more than 400 hours of group and individual treatment.

The minimum treatment period is 12 weeks and the program is completed in seven phases. The screening and treatment process covers the first five phases, with initial direct contact from inmates who must indicate an interest in participating.

Patton has initiated a process of review for clinical necessity which includes intake screening protocols, classification, admission, assessment with diagnosis, treatment and after care planning.
