Kenzie Foster smacked a two-run walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth Thursday to give Columbus East a 6-4 win against Trinity Lutheran.
Addy Ross went 4 for 4 with a double, and Foster went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs for the Olympians (4-14). Mackenzie Sigman went 2 for 4.
Kamzi Gross went 2 for 4 with a home run for the Cougars. Genesis Munoz went 2 for 4 with a double, and Bailey Tabeling went 2 for 4.
CC ends with no-hitter
INDIANAPOLIS — Emily Stair went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and threw a three-inning no-hitter to lead Columbus Christian to a 15-1 win at Indianapolis Tindley in their season finale.
Kayla Jones went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs for the Crusaders (4-3). Kinidy Morgan and Madison Henderson each added two RBIs.
Stars stop Panthers
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County outhit Bedford North Lawrence 12-10, but committed six errors in a 17-5, six-inning Hoosier Hills Conference loss.
Lidia Hall went 3 for 3 with a double, and Tori Lee went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs for the Panthers (8-12, 4-2). Abby McDonald went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Cougars run-rule Jackets
MORRISTOWN — Erynn Dyer went 6 for 6 with four RBIs to lead South Decatur to a 18-8 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at Morristown.
Madison Mikulec went 3 for 6 with two doubles, and Loyrn Pate went 3 for 6 with two RBIs and threw a 10-hitter for the Cougars (4-10, 2-3). Alyson Antunez went 2 for 5.
BASEBALL
North blanks Greenwood
Will Baker, Zach Wager and Blake Stevens combined on a three-hit shutout to lead Class 4A No. 1 Columbus North to an 11-0, five-inning win against Greenwood.
Kyler McIntosh went 2 for 2 with a triple and two RBIs, and Reese Harmon went 2 for 2 with two RBIs for the Bull Dogs (18-2-1), who pounded out nine hits. Blake Stevens went 2 for 3, and Baker had two RBIs.
Columbus Christian wins
INDIANAPOLIS — Ethan Nickerson threw a four-inning one-hitter to lead Columbus Christian to a 15-1 win at Indianapolis Tindley.
Owen Reed went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Cam Watts-Pritchard went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Parker Walden went 3 for 4 with six RBIs for the Crusaders (4-5). Josh Conrad went 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
Spartans top Lancers
EDINBURGH — Edinburgh led 2-0 after three innings, but Class A No. 5 Southwestern (Shelby) rallied for a 6-3 MHC win.
Noah Detling went 2 for 3 with a double for the Lancers (0-13, 0-9). Ian Buchanan had two RBIs.
Cougars rout Jackets
MORRISTOWN — Devin Pate and Avery Seegers combined on a two-hitter to lead South Decatur to a 19-3 MHC win at Morristown.
Clayton McNealy went 3 for 4 with a double and five RBIs, Avery Seegers and Griffey Storm each went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Brady Lane went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and Pate went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs for the Cougars (7-6, 4-2). Zaydun Sharp went 2 for 4.
GIRLS TENNIS
East falls to Batesville
BATESVILLE — Batesville won the No. 2 singles spot, and was leading Columbus East in the other four matches when play was stopped.
Cathrine Millwood fell to Summer Ratliffe 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles for the Olympians (2-11). Ayana Nomuro was trailing Betsy Harmeyer 7-5, 1-0 at No. 1 singles, and Katie Hong trailed Chloe Saler 6-3, 3-1 at No. 3 singles when the East players retired.
Cassidy Schnur and Monica Burton were trailing Kayla Stone and Laney Walsman 6-2, 5-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Shruthika Kumar and Katie Rieckers trailed Cayman Werner and Cara Vansidele 6-3, 5-2 at No. 2 doubles when the Olympians retired.
Bulldogs blank Panthers
NORTH VERNON — New Albany won four matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win at Jennings County.
Reagan Brown fell to Claire Meyer 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Tatum Brown lost to Natalie Saydera 5-7, 6-3, (10-3) at No. 2 singles and Carmen Kopitzke fell to Sierra Zamarano 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (10-5).
Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson lost to Layne Burke and Lily Meyer 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Cassidy Mull and Hannah Green fell to Elise Conrad and Marie Crone 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
TRACK AND FIELD
Jennings boys win
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County’s boys finished first and the girls were second in their Big Blue Relays.
Eli Wahlman won the boys 3,200 meters (10 minutes, 1.31 seconds). Other winners for the boys were Branden Braun and Bryce Barnes in the long jump (36 feet, 8 3/4 inches); Zane Ortlieb and Jake Sturgeon in the shot put (88-5); Ortlieb and Caleb Boccia in the discus (255-8); Aidan Ernstes, McIntosh, Lane Elsner and Gavin Hendrix in the distance medley relay (11:10.39) and Nathan Davis, Bryce Barnes, Michael Haynes, and Branden Braun in the 4×200 relay (1:40.69).
Rilee Hicks and Kristen Ponder won the girls high jump (9-0), and Lydia Roth and Ponder won the long jump (26-4). Delaynie Maschino and Taylor Leak tied for first in the pole vault (13-0). Danna Rosas, Cheyeanna Leslie, Kali Thompson and Kenna Maschino took the throwers 4×100 relay (1:03.19).
Cougars take second
GREENSBURG — South Decatur’s boys and girls both finished second in Wednesday’s Decatur County meet. Greensburg won the boys meet with 83 points to 39 for the Cougars and 34 for North Decatur, while Greensburg scored 88 1/2 points in the girls meet, and South Decatur edged North Decatur 35 1/2 to 32 for second.
Kelby Shook finished second in the long jump (18-5) and 400 (55.0), Ian Frensemeier took second in the shot put (40-5) and Isaac Gasper was second in the 800 (2:26.5) to lead the Cougar boys. For the girls, Zoe Meer finished second in the shot (26-3) and 100 (13.7), Lana Bell took second in the discus (81-2) and Ana Arreola was second in the 100 hurdles (19.5).
