North clinches title share
BLOOMINGTON — Class 4A No. 1 Columbus North clinched at least a share of the Conference Indiana title with a 17-4, six-inning win at Bloomington South.
The Panthers led 1-0 after two innings, but the Bull Dogs (20-2-1, 4-0) scored five in the third and four each in the fourth, fifth and sixth in reaching the 20-win plateau.
Dyllan Redmon went 2 for 3 with six RBIs to lead North’s nine-hit attach. Kyler McIntosh had a home run and three RBIs, Luke Harmon had three RBIs and Blake Stevens clubbed a home run.
McIntosh, Harmon and Jacob Bailey combined on a four hitter.
East rallies past Stars
Bedford North Lawrence led 2-0 after four innings, but Columbus East scored four in the fifth and four more in the sixth to claim an 8-2 win in the consolation round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament.
Will Rieckers went 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Olympians (8-10-1). Alex McComb had a double and three RBIs.
Ethan Ianni picked up the win in relief of Clayton Taylor, who was making his first pitching appearance of the season. The pair combined on a four-hitter.
Panthers shut out Owls
SEYMOUR — Jennings County claimed a 2-0 win at Seymour in the consolation round of the HHC Tournament.
Keegan Manowitz threw a three-hitter for the Panthers (10-6).
SOFTBALL
Bull Dogs blank Pirates
GREENSBURG — Peri Foust and Meghan Waggoner combined on a two-hit shutout to lead Columbus North to a 2-0 win at Greensburg.
The Bull Dogs (17-4) scored both of their runs in the fourth inning.
East downs Devils
JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East rallied from a 4-2 deficit with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to notch a 6-4 win at Jeffersonville.
Kerigan Greathouse went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Kenzie Foster went 2 for 4 with a double and Kaitlin Brummett went 2 for 4 for the Olympians (5-14). Kaylee Smith threw a seven-hitter.
Panthers fall to Floyd
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County cut a 7-0 deficit to 7-6, but Floyd Central held on for a 9-6 victory.
Shelby Wilson went 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs for the Panthers (9-15). Delaynee McCreary and Alaina Young each went 2 for 3.
Knights run-rule Eagles
NASHVILLE — Northview scored seven times in the first inning and went on to hand Brown County an 18-1, five-inning Western Indiana Conference defeat.
Lexie Austin went 2 for 3 for the Eagles (0-11, 0-7).
BOYS GOLF
North wins tri match
GREENFIELD — No. 8 Columbus North rested its top three golfers, but still won a tri match at Hawks Tail. The Bull Dogs shot 163 to 174 for host New Palestine and 184 for Shelbyville.
Tyler Wilks and John Ferguson each shot 40 to share medalist honors. Willy Davis carded a 41, Jack Schiavello added a 42, Michael Gambaiani shot 43, Aditya Banerjee had a 45 and Damon Gregory finished with a 46.
Braves stop Eagles
TRAFALGAR — Brown County fell to Indian Creek 189-239 at Tameka Woods.
Cooper VanNess led the Eagles with a 47. Clay Austin added a 58, Jordan Burnett shot 65 and Dylan Taylor had a 69.
GIRLS TENNIS
Panthers top East
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County pulled out a pair of three-set wins to claim a 4-1 victory against Columbus East in the consolation round of the HHC Tournament.
Reagan Brown beat Ayano Nomura 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Tatum Brown topped Catherine Millwood (CE) 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (11-7). Jennings’ Liz Ertel and Sydney Carson downed Monica Burton and Betsy Hoene 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Cassidy Mull and Hannah Green defeated Katey Rieckers and Shruthika Kumar 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
The win for the Olympians (2-14) came at No. 3 singles, where Katie Hong beat Carmen Kopitzke 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
