COLUMBUS, Ind. — The annual Memorial Day service at the Bartholomew County Courthouse grounds will be at 11 a.m. May 31.
If it rains, the location will be moved to the Cal Brand conference room in Columbus City Hall.
A balloon release to honor all veterans who have passed since the last service November 11th, 2019, will be held. Memorial Day is the historically correct day to remember all veterans who have passed, so the balloon release and reading of the names of veterans from Bartholomew County who have passed since the last reading will fit with Memorial Day.
Heeth Jewell of Jewell-Rittman Funeral Home is taking the lead for funeral homes in Bartholomew County by collecting all of the names of veterans who have passed and reading those names during the service.
Organizers ask that people attending bring their own lawn chairs and follow the CDC guidelines for masks and social distancing. The service will be approximately an hour long.
